St. Peter’s Mountain Children’s Center

Vision (in Peter’s words)

To provide education to the vulnerable and orphans children in the community. It will eradicate abject poverty in the community, children from poor background who have no hope to access education should be given opportunity to realize their talents.

Mission

To fight poverty and illiteracy in the community.

Peter started the school in 2007 with one student. There were many children in the Bamburi community who were not receiving any education because of poverty. Peter wanted to do something to help these children. His school, St. Peter’s Mountain Children’s Centre, now has 90 students in pre-school through 5th grade.

The children are taught English starting in pre-school. Other subjects taught are math, science, agriculture, art and crafts, social studies, hygiene, nutrition, and they are just beginning to introduce information technology. Many children attend other schools once they have finished the 5th grade at Peter’s school.

There are 3 quarters to the school year, each 3 months long. Peter charges $35 for each student to attend a quarter. While some parents are able to pay the full amount, many only pay a portion of the $35, and others pay nothing. Our donations from Peter’s Hope help to subsidize the tuition for many students. If you would like to sponsor a child, for a $35 donation you can send a child to school for 3 months. Click on our Donate button to make your donation. Don’t forget to designate that it is to pay a child’s tuition.

Peter also feeds the children noon lunch every day. For many, it is the only meal they will eat on any given day. Peter feels strongly that the children need good nutrition in order for their minds to be ready to learn. So far he has only been able to feed them rice and beans, but he hopes to be able to add fruits and vegetables in the future. You can partner with Peter by giving a $100 donation to feed 22 children for a month.

Peter’s dream for the future is to build his own school where there will also be rooms for the all the classes, plus the women’s center. He has architectural plans (which were drawn up by my nephew) which would provide him with a beautiful learning center for the women and children. Of course he will need a large influx of funds in order to do that. Perhaps Peter’s Hope can help provide that funding! We’ll gladly accept donations of $1000, $5000, $10,000 or more to begin a fund specifically for building a new education center. Again, please note that the donation is for the building of a future education center.
